Our Fall, your Summer.

September 30, 2009

We ♥ simple things.  Thing that begins to tell a story by itself.  Things that you have used, touched, owned or even forgot.  We love the following sets styled by Faye Toogood.  Looking at her style portfolio, the static and the silence tell us so much about those unknown memories and histories.

Below the images of Toogood’s sets is a dress we tailored made for a customer in July, 2009.  Even though summer is ended in San Francisco and Hong Kong, there are also many places going into the summer months. “Such is the case in Australia and New Zealand, which have delightfully warm temperatures at this time of year… Africa is another place where it’s summer in our winter… Other top sunny places in the coming 3 months include Acapulco, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico; Rio de Janeiro in Brazil; and Costa Rica.” ~ The Best Sunny Places to Vacation in December by Maryellen Cicione.

Most importantly, we are not seasonal in Tailor Artista.  We serve everyone in the world everyday in a year regardless of the four seasons.  While someone is putting on her cashmere sweater and getting ready to step into the fall, you could order a summer dress from us and we gladly deliver it to your doorstep.

The last image is styled by us to match our little yellow summer dress.  Enjoy.

Custom made cocktail dress

September 24, 2009

While we were being trained in architecture school, we learned to love Le Corbusier a lot.  His paintings are very interesting too. The first photograph below was taken by me of a post card print of his “Le Poem De L’angle Droit” 1955.  He is a genius in all times.  I also found a vintage hat in W this month.  The hat is re-trimmed by Albertus Swanepoel exclusively for W.  It is a fun and happy hat, I would love to have it if W is selling it.  Another photograph was also taken from W.  Just like the way the model posed. In the end, let me present a cocktail dress which we worked on in june this year.  It is custom made by our house tailor.  It will be on our official website in the near future.  Or contact me if you have any question.   The dress was made in both blue and purple.  But we have all sort of colors for your choice.  They are all in satin fabric. But if you wish to have it made in your own fabric choice. We want to hear your idea. Just email us at TailorArtista@yahoo.com.

A twist to a kimono inspired summer top

September 23, 2009

I started my routine as usual this morning.  What was a little different from normal is that I baked a couple of chocolate croissant today, yum!  While I was enjoying my little breakfast, I looked at my pantry and noticed the two sake cups which I almost forgot I ever had.  They looked particularly pretty today so I took a few shots of them while I was sipping my coffee.  They reminded me of a kimono inspired summer top which I bought for years and a japanese antique store around the corner of where I live.  In the afternoon while I was browsing through some of my fabric swatches, I thought maybe I could add a little twist to them.  See what I come up in the end below.

More toile de Jouy in interior applications

September 23, 2009

Yesterday, we looked at some modified toile de Jouy I found while I was in Hong Kong.  Those fabric are 100% cotton suitable for day dress or tops.  Today let’s look at how they are applied in the interior.

“Tradionally a single colour pictorial print depicting figurative and pastoral scenes. Its name was derived from a small French village, Jouy-en-Josas, where two German brothers set up a factory in 1770 to print imported Indian calico using copper plates.  The charm is in the fine detail achieved, best seen when the fabric lies flat, as on bedcovers, cushions and flat palmets.  When gathered, the pictures are lost in folds, although the effect is still attractive.” ~ American Glossary – www.magnolialane.com

Toile De Jouy

September 22, 2009

Toile is a “fabric of cotton or linen similar to muslin or percale in a plain or sometimes twill weave.  It is similar to a heavier unglazed chintz.  Toiles are typically roller or screen printed in one color: Navy, Cranberry, or Black on a cream background.

  • Toile de Jouy – eighteen and nineteen century rural scenes and people; originating in Jouy, France
  • Federal Toile – American federal buildings and eagles
  • Country Toile – contemporary floral patterns”

This time I was able to find some with roses, they are not the typical ones we usually see and they are white on colors as oppose to ink on cream and I will show a little some more tomorrow.
